SuperZoo 2017 Pet Exhibition
A few members of the Fletcher/CSI CPG team attended SuperZoo 2017 in Las Vegas, NV from July 25-27, 2017 to check out the latest pet industry trends. SuperZoo is the largest pet industry trade show in North America and allows pet manufacturers, retailers, distributors, press, and other professionals to interact under one roof. The show had over 10,000 attendees, and included more than 1,000 exhibitors and 5,000 buyers. Approximately 30% of the buyers were from the pet specialty segment, and close to 20% of retailers were from the mass market.
Fletcher/CSI has attended SuperZoo for over five years, and always pays close attention to new product launches, especially in the pet food segment. This year, close to 1,000 products launched, many of which were showcased in the new products section, and actively promoted by manufacturer reps. Since our first visit to SuperZoo, we’ve seen that both small and large manufacturers are committed to developing new product lines/SKUs with optimal nutrition and functional health benefits. Manufacturers also focus on packaging innovations, sustainable sourcing, and distributing products through the right channel mix of brick and mortar stores and ecommerce sites.
The main overarching theme that we observed at SuperZoo 2017 is that manufacturers of all sizes continue to humanize their pet food products, whether it be food, treats, toys, clothing, beds, or anything else that a pet may need. A large portion of pet owners strive to give their pets the same quality of life that they experience as humans, and believe this is achieved through humanized products. Pet food items that resonate well with humans and strengthen the relationship between pets and pet parents naturally offer a competitive edge.

FIME 2017 – Florida International Medical Expo
Members of the Fletcher/CSI Life Sciences team attended the 27th annual FIME, the largest medical trade fair in America, in Orlando, FL between August 8-10, 2017. The purpose of FIME is to allow medical equipment and device professionals to showcase their products and services. The 2017 FIME event had approximately 1,600 exhibitors and 22,000 visitors total from across 38 countries.
We attended FIME to stay up-to-date on medical device/equipment trends, learn about new products and services, and track new players that have emerged in the space. Conversations with senior decision makers from hospitals, manufacturers, distributors, and medical professionals combined with several industry workshops allowed us to walk away with a better understanding of specific company’s offerings and overall market dynamics. Technological improvements advance quickly in the space, and it is helpful to see live demos of new products in order to fully conceptualize the features and functionality of each item. We are looking forward to attending future events to track trends and expand our network.
